Our Lady of the Guadalupe Dunes
I make these paperclay altars using the traditional image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, then adding the endangered animals of the dunes habitat such as the snowy plover, brown pelican and steelhead trout.

The Guadalupe/ Nipomo dunes are located near my home in Oceano. These pristine dunes sre also an off-road vehicle recreation state park, one of the few places remaining where vehicles are allowed on the beach.
It is my hope that Our Lady of the Guadalupe Dunes will intervene in the passionate struggle between off-road vehicle enthusiasts and environmental activists. Perhaps with her help we may find solutions that will preserve the dunes for both recreation and habitat protection and restoration.
